The interaction of personal, societal, and physical environment characteristics influences why and how people engage in activities throughout their lives. Acknowledging diversity in backgrounds and experiences, and discovering what supports or gets in the way of doing different kinds of physical activities ensures that research is based on principles of inclusivity. In other words, research in this area asks “how do we make physical activity available to everyone?”
