Catherine Backman, PhD, FCAOT is Professor, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia and Senior Scientist at Arthritis Research Canada. Catherine’s research focuses on the impact of chronic illness on participation in valued life activities, activity disruption, and occupational balance. Using mixed methods and qualitative research designs, she examines the relationship between engaging in a variety of activities and health and well-being. Dr. Backman is currently (2017-2020) a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow at the University of Southampton, Faculty of Health Sciences and Arthritis Research UK Centre of Excellence for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis.
